As a hairstylist with ADHD and ASD, I have experienced both sides of the salon chair, and it has not always been easy. My ADHD thrives in the buzz of a fast paced, sensory rich environment, while my ASD craves calm, predictability and peace. I realised that if I struggled to feel fully comfortable in traditional salon spaces, my clients probably did too.

Over the years I heard so many people say that visiting the salon felt overwhelming, like a chore or something they avoided. It broke my heart to think that something so personal and powerful could feel stressful instead of supportive. I knew the usual salon model was not working for everyone, and I wanted to change that.

That is where Lacuna Ro was born, right here in Colchester.

Lacuna Ro was created as a safe, sensory friendly space that adapts to you instead of expecting you to adapt to it. Whether you thrive in a lively salon atmosphere or prefer a calm, low noise pod with gentle interaction, you are not only welcome, you are understood. Every part of the experience is designed with neurodiverse clients in mind, offering soothing quiet moments, grounding rituals and mindful colour sessions based entirely on how you feel most comfortable.

I have seen the magic that happens when someone feels heard, seen and genuinely supported. That moment when their confidence reignites after a colour transformation or healthy hair treatment is why Lacuna Ro exists.

The name Lacuna means an unfilled space and Ro comes from the Egyptian word for volume. Together they symbolise our mission, to help you fill your space your way and turn up the volume on your unique beauty.
